Ravens vs. Bengals thoughts (Erik Scheponik)
For starters we know the Ravens have a much better defense (by 90 ypg and 8ppg in ‘96). Most would agree they’ve had a much better offseason personnel wise and off-the-field as well. It’s also worth noting that they have the much shorter injury list. 2 of Cincy’s top 3 corners, Joe Joseph and Leon Hall will play hurt if at all, and remember they lost two key starters to free agency in that secondary. Odell Thurman, the team’s best LB is inactive, and two pass rushers Frostee Rucker, and Rashard Jeanty are also out. On offense, OT Anderson and C Chiaciuc are both ailing, and Chris Perry is on the PUP list. Finally, don’t forget Chris Henry, Cincy’s 3rd WR who could proably start for most NFL teams…he’s suspended the first 8 games. The Ravens, on the other hand, have some questionables, but most should play, and they are not cluster injuries like Cincinnati has. This line may actually be upside down.
You can tell up leaning to the points here, but I feel even stronger about the 9 PM EST matchup between the Cardinals and 49ers. I’m very selective in early season NFL, and won my only selection on Sunday with the OVER in New England/NY Jets. Make it 2-0 tonight with the winning side in this matchup between two improving NFC teams, backed by detailed analysis at http://www.cappersgallery.com/handicappers.cfm?CapperID=2380904262006911
Agree with you Erik…on the Ravens tonight. I posted a write-up in the Daily Betting Tip section.
Very interesting game, to say the least. Baltimore was clearly the better team, but Billick can’t swallow his ego and insists on getting creative in the play calling. Ed Reed is the best non-offensive player in the game.
